Comprehensive Speech-Language Evaluation

A comprehensive speech-language evaluation provides the “big picture “ while revealing one’s strengths and weaknesses in the most important areas of communication development. This evaluation will asses receptive language active communication). In our analysis, we will discuss the relationship between comprehension and the use of language. A profile will be created that reflects your child’s abilities as they compare to age, grade or developmental expectations as well as how his/ her abilities may impact social, academic and daily living skills.

In addition to these cardinal areas of assessment, an evaluation may also include related skills that may be influenced by or related to communication skill development. Depending on your child’s age and needs, the following additional skills may be evaluated:

  • Receptive and expressive vocabulary, word finding skills;
  • Pragmatic language skills (social skills)
  • Metalinguistic skills
  • Language Processing
  • Written Language
  • Executive functioning skills/ verbal memory
  • Auditory processing disorder
  • Word finding impairment
  • Phonological awareness/pre-reading skills
  • Reading levels and a comprehensive evaluation for dyslexia diagnosis where indicated

After the evaluation, testing results are reviewed with you and recommendations are offered. You will receive a full written report with a detailed analysis of your child’s performance including any recommendation and accommodations for your family, teachers, other professionals.
