Pediatric Speech & Language Evaluation

Dr. Hopkins offers a complete assessment of your child’s communication skills: either a comprehensive speech – language evaluation and/ or a motor speech evaluation. Each assessment includes standardized measures for speech, language, cognitive-communication, and/or swallowing assessment. Most importantly, it provides valuable information for remediation. In other words, a comprehensive speech – language evaluation will assess your child’s language and speech production skills for a complete look at all aspects of communication.

Speech Sound Assessment

A Speech Sound Assessment is a focused look at a child’s ability to produce speech sounds in a fluent and accurate manner. For articulation concerns, the speech assessment evaluates your child’s ability to produce all English speech sounds at 4 distinct levels: the sound level, the word level, and the sentence level. Speech is first assessed using formal testing, followed by analysis of spontaneous speech samples. This thorough look at speech production across these different levels will allow us to clearly characterize a child’s speech sound errors and determine the types of errors they are so that they can be effectively treated with speech therapy. After the assessment, results are reported and recommendations are offered. You will receive a full written report which documents observed speech sound patterns as well as a comparison of a child’s skills to expected developmental errors and developmental norms for sound acquisition.

We assess for:

  • Developmental Speech Delay-Late Talker
  • Childhood Apraxia of Speech
  • Phonological Processing Disorder
  • Developmental Dysarthria
  • Dysphonia (voice)
  • Dysfluency (Stuttering and Cluttering)
